The EMJM International Master on the Biology of Ageing: IMAgein

A programme designed to educate the next generation of leading researchers, translational scientists, entrepreneurs, and professionals in the biology of ageing. It equips them with the knowledge, skills, and competencies needed to create innovative solutions for the societal challenges of aging health in the 21st century.

Why understanding the Biology of Ageing is a global challenge?

Long-term projections suggest that if population aging is not addressed, public sector finances will face growing strain over the next 50 years due to rising age-related expenditures. As a result, demographic and economic trends position the biology of aging as a major challenge for modern scientific research. Advancing this field will be essential for developing innovative, sustainable solutions to improve healthspan while alleviating the economic burden of aging populations worldwide.

Why is the Biology of Ageing a crucial field for innovation today?

The biology of aging is a relatively young and rapidly evolving field. It wasn’t until the past century, with the global rise in life expectancy, that scientists began to explore whether ageing involves more complex mechanisms and regulations than just the gradual decline of physiological functions. Today, numerous aging models and theories are emerging, requiring innovative and open-minded approaches to advance the field. By uncovering the underlying mechanisms of aging, researchers can develop therapies that not only treat age-related diseases but also delay or prevent them, shaping the future of healthcare and improving overall societal well-being.
